As we leap into a new decade (yes new DECADE y’all), Kragor Orthodontics has also taken the leap to equip their office with the latest advances in orthodontic technology. Drs. Andy and Ambre Kragor hand pick best in class technology to match each of their patients with the correct custom treatment necessary to get them on their way to a gorgeous smile.
Why New Orthodontic Technology Is Important
Orthodontic treatment has been around for a long time, and, as with all health technologies, it has evolved tremendously. Would you walk around today with a mobile phone as big as a shoe? Hopefully not. In fact, you probably never saw the mobile phones when they looked like this — man we must be old. That is why old-fashioned, gooey impressions or X rays with film are a thing of the past. There are much more efficient and precise technologies available today to move your teeth or adjust your bite. The orthodontic technologies available today are also much more flexible with your lifestyle, less invasive or visible, and can often shorten overall treatment time. These are becoming the gold standard for diagnostic and examination procedures.
The Latest Technology for X rays, Impressions and Models
The first step in any treatment plan is a to get a complete picture of where your teeth are located and how to move them into alignment as accurately and efficiently as possible. Kragor Orthodontics uses imaging technologies that go way beyond the plaster molds of yesterday. Some of the new technologies include:
Digital Radiography — Digital radiography is a fancy phrase for X-rays without film that needs to be developed. Ask your tween what film is – see what we mean? Digital radiography improves diagnostic capabilities significantly. This allows Drs. Andy and Ambre to see your teeth clearly on a large computer screen, magnify images and notice even the slightest imperfections that they can address in treatment. Also it is instantaneous. There is no waiting period. Our doctors and instantly look at your x-rays and evaluate your teeth in seconds. Previously one had to wait approximately 20 minutes to see their teeth on a film.
iTero element scanner — The iTero element scanner keeps you and your children from experiencing those deep dish, metal plates filled with pink goo to build impressions. We’re all for retro-nostalgia, but you probably agree technology without that mess is most likely for the best. The iTero element scanner allows patients to see their teeth in real time and in 3D. One of the benefits of this visualization is that Drs. Andy and Ambre can talk through your treatment plan while sharing the live, on screen images with you. And it is really neat to look at your teeth, in magnified form. It may remind you to brush for a full 2 minutes.
3D Printers — Drs. Andy and Ambre are able to transfer 3D digital images of your teeth directly into plastic models. Now digital printers are able to take a digital file and print off your teeth. Though this technology is in the beginning phases for orthodontics — soon it will likely be in every practice. The benefit of this is having a super accurate mold of your teeth — that can last a lifetime. Save that one for your scrapbook mom!
Aligners Have Come A Long Way Too
Sure Smile® Aligners — SureSmile Aligners combine advanced digital tools, with state-of-the-art robotically bent archwires to help you achieve clinically superior treatments in less time. The company that fabricates these have provided tooth movement in the form of arch wires for many years. This aligner system is only used by orthodontic professionals.
Invisalign Aligners- Invisalign can be more comfortable than traditional braces with less of an adjustment period. You hardly notice you are wearing your Invisalign aligners. This is one of the reasons it is the most popular aligner on the market. Invisalign is an excellent option for busy patients. If monthly appointments don’t fit well in your schedule, Invisalign treatment allows you to extend your appointment intervals to every 2-3 months between visits, instead of the traditional 1 month interval.
At Home Options for Cosmetic Dentistry
It is pretty amazing how far dentistry has come. Even tooth bleaching has become an at home item with GLO Whitening blue light activation. The GLO device combines LED light and warming GLO heat to accelerate safe hydrogen peroxide whitening formulation for faster, easier, more effective whitening. It has been clinically proven to get your smile 5X whiter without sensitivity.
GLO provides tooth whitening without having to sit in the chair of your dentist office for over an hour. It is available over the counter at beauty stores, but at a much less powered strength than what you can get through your dentist.
